2020 P360 Fall Wood Bat League

The 2020 P360 Fall Wood Bat League is halfway through, with races starting to heat up as we come down the stretch to the playoffs and championship game.
The Astros and Cubs are tied at 3-1-1, with the Cubs holding the tiebreaker edge with a win over the Astros 10-5 on September 14th. They will match up again Thursday, October 1 at 6:00 PM on the Freedom Ridge Maroon field. Leading the way for the Cubs at the are Blake Summerlin, Luke Lycette and Nick Monistere. Blake Summerlin has the Cubs lone home run, taking one out of the park last night against the Braves in a 5-3 loss. Luke Lycette has accounted for seven of the Cubs RBIs, and Monistere leads the team in scoring. On the mound, Monistere has proved reliable as well, with 4 innings pitched, striking out 7 and no earned runs, including a win over the White Sox on September 17. Blake Summerlin has been a workhorse, logging 9.1 innings with work in all five of the Cubs games and striking out a league-leading 16 batters. Evan Rogers has recorded 10 strikeouts in 5.2 inning of work for the Cubs.
The Astros are led at the plate by Bryce Fowler, hitting at a .556 pace, including a home run last night against the Reds in a 12-1 drubbing of the Reds. Preston Soper has shined at the plate as well, batting .545 with 7 runs scored - including a home run against the Braves. However, Hunter Hines is pacing the league with 3 home runs - going yard in each of the last three games including a no doubter last night over the Reds. Jay Regan and Drew Newman have been workhorses on the mound for the Astros. Newman has pitched 7 innings, striking out 10 batters with 3 earned runs; Regan has logged 7.2 innings with 6 strikeouts, earning wins in both of his starts this season.

Both teams have two wins, with the Braves holding the edge with two ties. The winner will be in position to take over the #2 seed over the loser of the Astros-Cubs game. The White Sox play the Cubs on Oct 5 and the Astros on Oct 12, putting them in position to win their way to teh #1 seed with a win over the Braves. The Braves have one game left vs the Astros, tying them in their early matchup, and beat the Cubs last night 5-3, leaving them in great shape with a win against the White Sox.
Reds at Royals, 6:00 PM Freedom Ridge Gray
The Reds are seeking their first win of the season and lost to the Royals 8-5 on Sept 14. The Royals have a loss to the Astros on Sept 17 and tied the Cubs on Sept 21...they are fresh off a victory over the White Sox last night in a tight 5-4 win. A win puts in them in position to fight for the #1 seed as they have games against both the Astros and Cubs next week.

2020 marks the 14th season, an annual tradition bringing together the top high school baseball players from the Jackson Metro area. Every Fall, around 100 players are placed on teams that are a mixture of virtually every high school in the area, forming a bond to compete for a championship.
