SECL Adds Team to Jackson Division
Commissioner Cory Hough announced today that a complete team was added to the Southeast Collegiate League in the Jackson division.
The Mustangs, a team of college players from the Jackson Metro have joined the league. They will retain their name but compete in the league and will be included in the rankings, stats and leader boards.
The Mustangs were established in 2009 with a 9U travel team that played USSSA baseball. several players from that team have gone on to play college baseball and football...and many are still playing on the Mustangs Collegiate team. Coached and managed by the same coaches since the beginning - Eric Murphy, Craig Tate, Kevin Wright and Mike Jackson - the coaches give credit to the success of the program with the values that they instilled in the players so many years ago. "Our goal was to instill a love of the game while emphasizing the importance of education and team work", said Mike Jackson. "Our biggest success so far has been seeing the players from our first group all graduate high school and start their college careers, whether playing baseball or not." The Mustang players come from Hinds, Rankin and Madison counties.
The SECL Jackson division is just about full as Cory Hough continues to build the league. The Baton Rouge division is heating up as well. Visit us our WEBSITE to learn more about the league and how college players can be a part of this inaugural season.
