Sox Softball Begins Preparing for Season

The Sox Softball Program will be begin organization practice and playing opportunities for its teams, with an eye towards getting back on track around April 1.

According to Haley Sones, Sox Softball Director, she expects five teams to take the field this summer in the extended 2020 season. USSSA and others have officially moved the end of the season from July 31 to August 31, with all players remaining eligible to play in the age division that they started the season. "We have a solid base of players in 10,14,16u and will be adding a 12u and a 18U age divisions", stated Sones. "a couple of those teams have complete rosters and players have been reaching out over the last few weeks looking to play on the showcase teams. We added the 18U division to give graduating seniors, who missed the majority of their senior year, a platform to play for college coaches this summer."

Joining Sones, who was a catcher for Co-Lin after graduating from Loyd Star High School before earning a scholarship to finish her career at BYU-Hawaii, is Kaitlyn Perry and Caitlyn Castille.

Kaitlyn Perry serves as the Recruiting Coordinator for the program. From North Pike High School, Perry played softball at William Carey as a middle infielder. She was an assistant coach for WIlliam Carey for 3 years while earning her Master's Degree in Education, and Specialist degree in Emotional/Behavior Disorders. She teaches at South Jones High School, where she is a member of the softball coaching staff.

Caitlyn Castille, Sox Softball Team Coordinator, also played at William Carey, a 4-year starting catcher for the Crusaders after graduating from Winona Christian School. Castille earned her degree in Physical Education and is currently working on her Master's Degree in Special Education. She teaches at Petal Elementary School.

This is the inaugural season for the Sox Softball Program, part of the nationally recognized Sox Baseball Program that plays under the P360 Performance Sports banner.
