Strong Showing for Sox teams in Grand Slam tournament
Sox teams performed well this past weekend in the Grand Slam Tournament held in Flowood.
The 13U team coached by Josh Varner earned a 3rd seed bye in Bracket play by going 2-0 in Pool Play. They defeated the Mississippi Express 10-5 Saturday morning, following that up with a victory over the Yazoo Cardinals in the afternoon. Their tournament ended in the quarterfinals Sunday afternoon, downed by the MBI Warriors 10-2.
The 13U team coached by Gerard Gibert swept Pool Play, with a Saturday morning win over the MBI Warriors 8-7 and a victory over the Dirt Dawgs 7-4 in the afternoon game. Earning the 4th seed, they took on the Madison Rangers that went on for two overtime innings before winning 8-7. Saturday afternoon they took on the Jackson 96ers, and dispatched the 1st seed 7-4 to play the EC Sox Select, falling 9-8 with the game tied going into the bottom of the last inning.
The 14U team coached by Eric Wilkes went 1-1 in Pool Play by knocking off Mojo Baseball and snagging the 5th seed bye, then won the first Bracket game over the MS Elite Orioles 12-3 before falling to the Icon Elite 11-1 in the semi-final game.
The 14U team coached by Ryan Creek started the weekend with a 15-1 thumping of the Madison Thunder Royals, before tying the Deep South Elite 5-5 to earn the 3rd seed in Bracket Play. Playing the MS Yankees Silver, they picked up another victory to play in the Championship Game with the Flowood Phillies, earning the Runner Up with a 12-2 loss Sunday night.
Henry Hollis was names the Tournament MVP from the EC Sox 13U Select Team.
