This September the Fall Wood Bat League reaches a milestone, bringing high schools players together to create teams to compete in the Fall each year for what will be the 20th time.

It started small, with four teams playing at Smith Wills stadium in 2006 to get some work in as the players prepared for the Fall Showcase season in Jackson. It grew gradually over the next ten years, anywhere from six to eight teams as more players became aware of the program, and the fun of playing with players from other schools for a few weeks in the Fall. It reached ten teams in 2019, and then it exploded. By 2021, Hattiesburg added ten teams, and in Jackson it went to 14 teams. Last season, Jackson maxed out at 16 teams, Hattiesburg brought on 10, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast added four more. Almost 400 players getting together in the Fall to compete, have fun, and play in front of college coaches. After the grind of the Summer Showcase Circuit, playing during the week opened up the weekends to enjoy High School Football, College Football and other Fall activities that are familiar in the Fall. And again...it's fun!

The champions in Hattiesburg and Jackson started getting together a few years ago to establish the bragging rights in this part of the state, competing to get their name carved into a Championship Cup each year. The word is that game may be played in Hattiesburg this year after three seasons in Jackson.

The fun is starting to catch on in Auburn and Mobile. There were some teams a couple years ago in Auburn, but it hadn't quite caught on like it did in Mississippi. But there is a buzz going around in Opelika and Auburn, and the Fall Wood Bat League will be coming back this year. Down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the League is expected to grow even more this season after putting together four teams last season. And in Mobile, Lamar Cowart has players approaching him about getting the League started for them, too.

The 20th season of the P360 Fall Wood Bat League looks to be the biggest season ever. Opening Day is coming up in early September... are you in?
